Microsoft Announces Out-of-Band Patch for Internet Explorer Zero Day Exploit

Microsoft has just updated their advanced notification page for January 2010. They will be releasing an out-of-band patch for the Internet Explorer zero day exploit tomorrow, January 21.

Shavlik Announces Smaller Threat Definition File Format

Effective immediately, the Shavlik NetChk Agent will begin using a smaller threat defintion file format. The size of the file will decrease from more than 100Mb to approximately 43Mb. The change to the Version 3.9 file format will force a full update. Users may see an increase in bandwidth utilization. Timeouts on the Shavlik downloads server will be rare, but may occur. If you experience a timeout, wait and attempt to download the new threat definition file a few minutes later.

NetChk Protect 7 patch to be released

A hot fix will be released for Shavlik NetChk Protect 7 later today (August 11, 2009). NetChk Protect 7 customers can install this hot fix manually or use NetChk Protect 7 to deploy the fixes as a patch. The patch detection and deployment information will be included in the Shavlik XML data that will be released as part of this month’s Patch Tuesday release. Details of this fix will be available after 3:00 p.m. central time today (August 11, 2009) as a Shavlik Knowledge Base (SKB) article at http://forum.shavlik.com and on the Shavlik web site in version history.
